What you need to know before hiring a contractor

It can be difficult to choose a good contractor.  Here are a few tips to help you make the right decision.

  • Choose a legitimate business.  They will be more concerned with customer service and quality workmanship.  Also, a legit. business will be FAR less likely to take your money and run.

  • Smaller companies have lower overhead, and are able to charge you less.  But, cheaper is not always better.  Ask for references.

  • Ask to see their license.  Any licensed professional will not take offense.

  • An insured contractor is a plus.  Insurance is for everyone's protection.

  • Always get a signed contract before the work begins.  The contract should contain contact info, a breakdown of the work to be performed, and a price.

  • On larger projects, NEVER pay the full balance up front.  Retain at least 20% until the job is done to your satisfaction.  If the contractor requires full payment up front, find another contractor.

  • Check with the BBB, a company does NOT need to be a member to receive bad reports.
